Jose U. Scher, MD, is assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at New York University (NYU) Langone Medical Center. He serves as director of the Arthritis Clinic at NYU-Hospital for Joint Diseases, the Psoriatic Arthritis Center at NYU Langone Medical Center, and the Microbiome Center for Rheumatology and Autoimmunity at NYU School of Medicine. 
 
As the director of the Psoriatic Arthritis Center, Dr. Scher oversees patient care, education, and translational research initiatives in psoriatic arthritis. His main area of research is related to the role of the human microbiome in autoimmune and rheumatic disease, specifically in psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
1. Differentiate between psoriatic arthritis (PsA) and other arthritides to ensure early and accurate diagnosis of PsA
2. Appropriately incorporate the various disease modifying agents into the management of patients with PsA taking into consideration patient comorbidities
3. Utilize effective communication and collaboration techniques to foster clinical care coordination among care team members
4. Integrate shared decision-making techniques to improve patients' understanding of the risks and benefits of their treatments and to allow them to participate in healthcare decisions
