Sunanda Kane MD, MSPH, FACG, FACP, AGAF, earned her doctor of medicine degree at Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. She completed a residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center. She then completed her fellowship at the University of Chicago. Dr. Kane is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
 
Dr. Kane currently works as a Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where she also serves as a Consultant to the Department of Medicine’s Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, as well as a Staff Member on the GI Epidemiology/Outcomes Research Unit and a Faculty Member for Mayo Clinic Quality Academy. She has a busy clinical practice and sees patients with inflammatory bowel disease, conducting research in the areas of new therapies, gender specific issues, and medication adherence. In addition to her personal research and practice, Dr. Kane travels to give lectures at national symposia and other medical facilities in the United States and across the world.
 
Dr. Kane has contributed over 120 papers of original research, 50 reviews, and 25 book chapters to the medical literature. She co-edited a pocket guide to the management of IBD for practitioners, and wrote a book for patients on IBD self-management. She served as the first female Associate Editor for Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics and continues to serve editorial roles for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Gastroenterology & Hepatology, and the Journal of Crohn’s and Colitis.
 
Dr. Kane is the Past Chair of the National Patient Education Committee for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, and is currently the Treasurer of the American College of Gastroenterology. She also sits on the GI Specialty Council of the American Board of Internal Medicine. Within the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Dr. Kane is the Chair of Quality where she is responsible for overseeing quality improvement projects, as well as monitoring quality metrics for the faculty. In 2015 she was elected into Leading Physicians of the World, and was also elected one of America’s best physicians in 2016.

Sasha Taleban, MD, earned his doctor of medicine degree at the University of Washington School of Medicine, and went on to Rhode Island Hospital/Brown for gastroenterology fellowship and completed an Advanced IBD Fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.
 
Dr. Taleban is the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Program at the University of Arizona, where he also works as an Assistant Professor.
 
Dr. Taleban’s research interests include aging and quality improvement in IBD and general gastroenterology. He has multiple publications in various journals covering a variety of topics, and currently serves as a journal reviewer for American Journal of Gastroenterology, Inflammatory Bowel Disease Journal, Journal of Crohn’s and Colitis, and Digestive Diseases and Sciences, among others. Dr. Taleban has a series of national abstracts that have been published, and he has participated in numerous projects, seminars, and conferences.
 
Dr. Taleban chairs the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) Patient-Physician Relationship Subcommittee and serves on the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America Patient Education Committee, along with the ACG Professionalism Committee. He is a member of the GI Fellowship Admissions, Curriculum, and Clinical Competency Committees, and serves as a member of the CCFA Patient Education Committee. Dr. Taleban has given multiple local and regional lectures to providers and patients. At the University of Arizona, he helped establish the IBD Program and built a growing practice.

Gary R. Lichtenstein earned his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, in New York, New York. He then completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Duke University Medical Center, in Durham, North Carolina. He also served a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania of the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine.
 
Dr. Lichtenstein is Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center and a Professor of Medicine in the Gastrointestinal Division of the Department of Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His current research interests encompass investigational therapies for the treatment of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease and has had a significant focus on the safety of current and future medical therapy. He has also focused his research on the natural history of disease. Dr. Lichtenstein has received numerous research grants focusing on these areas and has served as the national/international principal investigator evaluating novel agents for therapeutic trials in the treatment of ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease.
 
A Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Physicians and the American College of Gastroenterology, Dr. Lichtenstein has been listed in “Best Doctors in America” (inflammatory bowel disease), and has served as Medical Secretary for the American Board of Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology Section. He holds membership and committee positions in many professional societies at a national level, including the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American College of Gastroenterology.  He is also a member of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) where he served at the national level as the chair of the membership committee of the Clinical Research Alliance, and on the national grants review committee and the national professional education committee.  Dr. Lichtenstein is a longstanding member of the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association.
 
Dr. Lichtenstein has received numerous awards, including the National Scientific Achievement Award from CCFA, the Louis A. Duhring Award, and the Christina and Marie Lindback award. In addition to having served on the Editorial Board of the journals Gastroenterology, American Journal of Gastroenterology, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, World Journal of Gastroenterology, and Digestive Diseases and Sciences, Dr. Lichtenstein serves as a reviewer for The New England Journal of Medicine, Gastroenterology, The Lancet, among many others. He is the executive editor of a newly PubMed-indexed journal Gastroenterology and Hepatology and has served as Associate Editor of Therapeutic Advances in Gastroenterology, The Physician and Sports Medicine, Clinical Investigation, and has served as Assistant Editor-in-Chief of the World Journal of Gastroenterology.  An invited lecturer at the local, national, and international levels, Dr. Lichtenstein is the author or coauthor of more than 325 peer-reviewed primary articles and chapters, and he has presented over 250 abstracts and edited 18 books.  He has lectured at a national and an international level at over 500 invited conferences, lectures, symposiums and institutional grand rounds.

Millie D. Long, MD, MPH, earned her doctor of medicine degree at the University of Virginia, where she was a Bowman Scholar. She completed a residency and chief residency in internal medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  She then completed a gastroenterology fellowship at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While at University of North Carolina, she also completed a fellowship in preventive medicine and a masters of public health in epidemiology at the Gillings School of Public Health. She is board certified in internal medicine, preventive medicine and gastroenterology. 
 
Dr. Long is currently Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of North Carolina.  Her clinical practice is based at the University of North Carolina Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Center.
 
Dr. Long’s interests include research on prevention of complications of inflammatory bowel disease and women’s health.  She is currently an investigator for the CCFA Partners cohort, a prospective cohort focusing upon patient reported outcomes that includes over 14,000 patients living with inflammatory bowel disease.  Dr. Long has contributed numerous peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and review articles to the medical literature.  She currently serves as an invited reviewer for journals such as Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, Gastroenterology, and the American Journal of Gastroenterology.  She is Associate Editor for the IBD section of the American Journal of Gastroenterology.
 
Dr. Long is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, where she serves on the Research Committee; and a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, where she serves on the maintenance of certification committee.  She is also a member of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, where she chairs the Professional Education Committee.

Derek R. Patel, MD, earned his doctor of medicine degree at the University of California, Davis. He completed a residency at the University of California, San Francisco, in the Department of Medicine, and completed a gastroenterology fellowship at University of California, San Francisco, in the Division of Gastroenteroloy. Dr. Patel received additional training at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center, in Los Angeles, California. He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. 
 
Dr. Patel is currently Associate Clinical Services, Chief, of Hillcrest Gastroenterology. He also participates in teaching activities through the University of California at San Diego’s School of Medicine. 
 
Dr. Patel’s interests include research on inflammatory bowel disease, emergency department evaluation and management of patients with IBD, and other gastroenterological issues. Due to his research and expertise, Dr. Patel has participated in numerous presentations of which he was invited to speak. Dr. Patel has contributed numerous abstracts and publications to the medical literature, and has publishing worked in journals such as Clinical Gastroenterology Hepatology and Clinical Nephrology.
 
Dr. Patel is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, World Gastroenterology Organization, and the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, among others. He also serves as an ad hoc reviewer for Digestive Diseases and Sciences and Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.
